What Is Dream Interpretation?

We all have dreams on a regular basis, even if some of us can’t remember as many as others. For hundreds of years people have been trying to decipher meanings from their dreams, which is not an easy task because of how random and unpredictable they can be. In this article we’ll be exploring what dream interpretation really is and how you can start to learn the skills required for it yourself.

The first thing to remember is that all dreams are unique.  While there are common themes of dream that many people have, the actual dreams themselves will always be slightly different which makes interpreting dreams even more difficult in most cases.  Some people believe that dreams and meaningless and that they are just our brains way of sorting through all its data while we are asleep – and that might be true – but other people believe that our dreams are connected to our everyday reality and are telling us things about ourselves.

I’m sure we’ve all had an event happen in our day and then dreamt about something similar at night, so there is no doubt that dreams are affected by our lives in some way. For some people this is proof that dreams can give us insights into our lives and future.

So when did interpreting dreams really start?  The ancient Greeks used to believe that people could be cured of illness through the power of dreams. They also believed that you could see omens in dreams and hence the priests of ancient Greece were often used as dream interpreters. There is also history of dream interpretation in China around the 16th century and in Europe a bit later on. However it is not inconceivable that people were practicing dream interpretations across the world long before this.

So how can you start interpreting your dreams? There are many resources online where people share their dreams and other people can help interpret them. Reading these is a great way of getting a feel for the different kinds of dreams and what they could be interpreted as. Remember that different people will have different interpretations of a dream and in general there is no right or wrong answer. Often dreams are difficult to decipher though and there is not always an obvious reason for the dream. The best way to learn anything is through other people who have been practicing for a long time and dream interpretation is no exception.

Getting A Free Dream Interpretation

If you are interested in interpreting your dreams then the best place to start is with a free dream interpretation. These aren’t going to be as accurate as a dream interpretation by a professional or for dreams that are very specific, but they can be great if you are having a common dream and want to see what it means.

Free dream interpretations are easy to find on the internet as long as you know what dream you are looking for and that it is a common dream. In some cases you’ll also be able to find dreams that are a bit different to the normal being interpreted, although if you have very personal dreams then you might only be able to find a general interpretation of that dream rather than one that is tailored specifically to your situation. Usually you can extrapolate your dream analysis from a more common dream to one of yours, even if they are not exactly the same, because generally dreams follow similar patterns most of the time.

Some of the more common dreams include ones where you are falling and wake up just before impact, dreams where all your teeth fall out and dreams with animals. Finding interpretations of these dreams will not be difficult as they are so common.

One of the places that you can find a free dream interpretation is online.  There are plenty of sites that offer interpretations of various different dreams and in some cases they have very large databases so they are definitely worth a look.

As an example let’s have a look at one of the more common dreams – falling. These are often remembered by people because they can be quite intimidating and a bit frightening in some cases. The good news is that just because you have a dream about falling doesn’t mean that anything bad is going to happen – it is probably just a product of the different phases of sleep that you go through on an average night. In some cases when your body relaxes into its most sleep like state the body will feel like it is falling and hence you get these very common dreams. They are nothing to worry about though in most cases. The reason that you jump at the end of your dream is the body believes it is falling and tries to brace for the impact at the end.

Finding free dream interpretations is not a difficult task and will be suitable for the more common dreams and even some of the more specific ones if you are willing to do some research.

Dream Interpretation Guide

In the past if you wanted to learn dream interpretation you would have to buy a book or course about it, but today you can find many places that offer a free dream interpretation guide. The internet is of course the best place to find these, although in some cases you will have to pay for a more advanced course. The basics are available online for free though if you spend some time looking around.

The easiest way to find a free dream interpretation guide is to search on Google for it. This will come up with many results although most of them should have a similar idea. Not everyone’s idea of a guide to dream interpretation is the same though so there might be some variation between different sites.

In general, the three most important things when it comes to dream interpretation are as follows.

1. The emotions that the person feels in the dream are important. Sometimes the emotions of the dream will not seem to match the events, and in this case they are telling you something about how to interpret the dream.
2. Look out for dream symbols as these can be very important. A dream symbol could be anything in the dream that has significance and could appear as an object, person or anything else. If you want to interpret dreams to a high level you need to know a lot about symbols and also have a good reference book or online source for them.
3. Remember that everything in the dream is referring to a part of the dreamer. If you are dreaming of a person, or other living thing, then these usually refer to an emotion or characteristic of the dreamer. A solid object will refer to the physical body of the dreamer.

When you are starting to interpret your own dreams it can be difficult to remember exactly what happened in them. We have a tendency to forget important parts of the dream quickly after we wake up so you should always write down your dream the moment you awaken. This way you can be sure that you have all the correct information and that it is accurate. Interpreting dreams is never easy so making sure you have all the information available to you is vital if you want to get it right. Spend some time reading what other people have interpreted dreams as so that you can get a feel for what different parts of a dream mean.

A Free Dream Interpretation Dictionary

If you want to interpret your dreams then the best place to start is with an interpretation dictionary. However these do cost money if you buy them in a retail store, so is there a way of finding a free dream interpretation dictionary so that you can interpret your dreams without having to pay?

Before the internet the only way to get a dream interpretation was through friends and family who knew about dreams. There seem to be so many different dreams that it is almost impossible for one person to know them all though. Even so, there are common themes that run through different kinds of dreams which help you to interpret them.

For example if you had a very specific dream where a snake was chasing you through an open field then although you might not be able to find this exact dream in a dictionary you would be able to find dreams that include animals and involve you running away from something. Therefore you can interpret the dream yourself without having to go to a professional interpreter.

So where can you find these free dream interpretation dictionaries? The best place is, of course, the internet. Over the last few years several websites have built up huge databases of dreams and what they could mean in different situations. This makes it easy to find an interpretation for your dream in most cases.

The great thing about the internet is that there are so many people online and sharing their dreams that it is very easy to find someone who has had a similar dream as you. Even if you can’t find a similar dream there are message boards where you can ask people to interpret your specific dream. The only thing to remember is that in most cases anyone can interpret your dream on these websites, so don’t expect a single answer. You might have to decide which of the interpretations that you receive suits your dream the best.

With the internet providing many places to find a dream dictionary it has never been easy to find out what your dreams really mean. While you can still buy dream interpretation books they generally will not be able to cover as wide range of dreams as the internet can and will cost you money. However they do have some advantages such as being able to quickly look up a dream without turning on the computer, so if you are a real dream enthusiast you might want to get one anyway.

Free Dream Interpretation Guide

Dreams can hold an enormous amount of information in them, and using a dream dictionary can help you understand your dreams and discover your true self.   It can open up the world of dream interpretation for you and help you understand the meaning of many of your dreams.

Dreams are symbols used by the subconscious mind to impress the conscious mind.  When you are dreaming your perception wavers just as it does in your waking hours.  Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung both considered dreams as an interaction between the conscious and unconscious mind.  They did not agree in their interpretations of the meaning of dreams however.

Although there are many books and journals written about the meaning of dreams, and each Author is doing their best to understand and explain why we have specific dreams, their theories can differ dramatically.  It points out the fact that the meaning of your dreams in a dreams dictionary is not always obvious.

We all recognize a rose when we see one, but we do not perceive the same fragrance.  Whatever symbol is used to impress the dreamer is the one which is likely to stimulate them more definitely than any other.  Different dreamers can have different dreams about the aroma or color of the rose, but they are still dreaming about a rose.  This is why the symbol or word (which is the description of the symbol.)  will cause different dreams to be interpreted the same.  Using the case of a rose as an example, there are two different dreams about two different aromas and colors, which led us to the theme of the dream, which is the rose.  Dreams about roses are considered to be happy and content dreams. You can have similar dreams that will have entirely different meanings just as you can have different dreams with the same meaning.

Many have attempted to find the real meaning of dreams, and a Dream Dictionary will be helpful to you when interpreting your dreams.  Keep in mind that while the use of a Free Dream Interpretation Dictionary can be a very useful tool in interpreting dreams, it is a light-hearted insight into the symbolism of dreams, and should be treated as such. It should be used as a bedside guide to discovering and understanding the meanings of dreams.

Do not just accept the general interpretation of a word. Take the time to think about how the interpretation of the word would pertain to you personally, and hopefully you will find the answers you are looking for.

No word can be given one simple meaning. The same word can have a different meaning in a dream with a different theme. A house can represent only shelter in one dream but a desire for home ownership and independence in another.  Keep in mind that these descriptions are only suggestions. You must always apply them to the theme of the dream and your personal situation.

The power we have in dreams is like no other, and acquiring the ability to interpret your dreams is a powerful tool.  While using a Free Dream Interpretation Dictionary is an excellent method for understanding dreams, you should also keep a personal journal.  Making a journal of your dreams is acknowledging that your dreams are unique to you and that only you can work out what they really mean.

A small journal should be kept by your bedside and used often.  When you wake from a dream you should make a note in your journal about the dream. The next morning look up the words you noted in your journal and record any comments or opinions you may have. By browsing through your journal occasionally you can get a grasp on how your dreams influence your life. This is also a great way to discover the impact on your life that understanding your dreams can have.
